October still --- and again

October 4th, 2018

O hushed October morning mild,
Thy leaves have ripened to the fall;
Tomorrow's wind, if it be wild
Should waste them all.

The crows above the forest call;
Tomorrow they may form and go.

tklemp

O hushed October morning mild,

Begin the hours of this day slow.

Make the day seem to us less brief.

Hearts not averse to being beguiled,

Beguile us in the way you know.

Release one leaf at break of day;

At noon release another leaf;

One from our trees, one far away,

Retard the sun with gentle mist;

Enchant the land with amethyst.

Slow, slow!

For the grapes sake, if they were all,

Whose leaves already are burnt with frost,

Whose clustered fruit must else be lost --

For the grapes'  sake along the wall.

October, by Robert Frost

Lovely poem. It's a "hushed October morning mild" here today as it happens

Beautiful. Here it is still cool with a southerly wind. Big waves rolling in from the antarctic but soon it will warm up. It has been very dry this year. A worry for the bushfire season to come.

A lovely post, both poem and musical video. It's not a "hushed October morning" here, but a hot and sticky one that makes one appreciate air conditioning. Autumn is certainly getting off to a late start here. The season may be completely skipped so we go directly from summer to winter. What a pity that would be.

Perfect. How beautifully you illustrate the poem. It is interesting to me that Vermont Octobers (which I imagine Frost to be experiencing as he composed this) are so similar to ours in the Pacific Northwest.
