The Letter is A for Ancestors
Each has his own tree of ancestors but at
the top of all sits Probably Aboreal.
Robert Louis Stevenson
At the turn of the century I was bitten very hard by the
Genealogical Bug and I spent a few years
enthralled with my Ancestors
who, I discovered, came from many different places.
Scotland, Ireland, Holland, Germany, England
and a whole great contingent of Loyalists
from New York State.
It's great fun to compare ears and eyes and noses
and see who looks like great grandfather,
or the aunts with the hats.....

One of my sisters is the family genealogist and I love reading through the lists of ancestors. She has been able to get documented proof all the way to the early 1600s in England and then in Canada and undocumented to the 1400s in France. We even discovered that rather than being ON the Mayflower, they were co-owners of the ship! Fancy that!

Interesting to see the way ancestors haven developed in all those ages. In the end we haave had our roots in Africa.
Thanks for your lovely post.

Great choice and photo for A ~ Ancestors are fascination to see and learn about ~ We are all connected ~
Wishing you a joyful week ~ ^_^
I love old family pictures! I'm curious to see if you continue this theme.
Hello Hildred! "The Aunts with the hats" love them and your beautiful snowy header photo too. Glad I cam by to rejoin ABCWednesday today.
Have a wonderful week ahead.
I have photos of my ancestors hanging on the wall by my computer as I write this and now I'm studying them to see who I look like! Thank you
The ancestry bug likes me too and I also like to find family resemblances in old photos. My dad was given a large portrait of his great grandfather for just that readon. Even the children Mom babysat thought it was Uncle Al.
:0)
Martha, I have as picture of a cousin (second or third or maybe even fourth) taken over a hundred years ago and you would swear it was my granddaughter at the same age.... fascinating.
Leslie, Charles' fifth or sixth great grandfather came to America with the Winthrop Fleet, a few years after the Mayflower. It must have been an exciting time for those people and required a good bit of courage and foresight to leave home for a new land. Nice that you have that connection!
My earliest ancestors in America are Palantines, from Germany.
How wonderful that you could trace your ancestors and get all this interesting information!
I've made pitiful attempts to do genealogy, but it's a start...

I really enjoy researching ancestors, been doing it for awhile. I have to take breaks, it is so time consuming.

That's a neat collage of your ancestors. I wish it was easier finding stuff on mine.
