ABC Wednesday

August 21st

The Letter is F, for Robert Frost

The Flower Boat

Robert Frost

The fisherman's swapping a yarn for a yarn
Under the hand of the village barber,
And there in the angle of house and barn
His deep sea dory has found a harbor.

At anchor she rides the sunny sod
As full to the gunnel of flowers growing
As ever she turned her home with cod
From George's bank when winds were blowing.

And I judge from that elysian freight
That all they ask is rougher weather,
And dory and master will sail by fate
To seek the Happy Isles together.

For more happy F's sail on over to ABC Wednesday here, with thanks
to Denise, to Roger and to all Fair helpers.

I'm glad the Dory's full of happier things now.
Those flowers are beautiful.
Thanks for sharing the poem.

Perfect illustration for this lesser-known (by me anyway) Frost. Thank you for it.

Now that's what I call a beautiful last restingplace for the boat. This way she does a great job by hosting so many flowers. Have a great. week!

Hi Hildred, beautiful photo to go with the Frost poem. I picked up a slender volume by Frost at the local Library sale a couple of months ago and read some of his work with fresh eyes this Summer.
Youthful readers more often see different meanings in his poems , perhaps unintended ones, than do readers with the experience of 50 or 60 years gone by.
He was apparently a fairly cranky old guy, which I respect and like in a person!

Facts of life! May we all find our places and harbor safe, productive, and peaceful. Great "F" post.
