The letter is H and it stands for Seamus Heaney

In Memory

Noli timere

Postscript

And some time make the time to drive out west
Into County Clare, along the Flaggy Shore,
In September, or October, when the wind
And the light are working off each other
So that the ocean on one side is wild
With foam and glitter, and inland among stones
The surface of a slate-grey lake is lit
By the earthed lightening of a flock of swans,
Their feathers roughed and ruffling, white on white,
Their fully-grown headstrong-looking heads
Tucked or cresting or busy underwater.
Useless to think you'll park or capture it
More thoroughly.  You are neither here nor there,
A hurry through which known and strange things pass
As big soft buffetings come at the car sideways
And catch the heart off guard and blow it open.

Seamus Heaney

Thank you for sharing the tribute with us.
I so like the end of that poem about the buffeting winds blowing open the heart.
Beautiful.

A nice tribute to a good poet. "You are neither here nor there" I love the air of mystery around the words.

One of my favourite poets Hildred. Just a moment before he died (quite unexpectedly I understand) he must have sensed that he was going because he sent a text to his wife in Latin (which he loved) whic translated read 'do not be afraid'. I find that wonderful.

I thought that was very wonderful too, Pat - Noli timere. I took it to heart as well....

Wonderful treat to read again and a fitting tribute.
The places he walked will miss his steps upon them, the land and our hearts and minds.

Wow, I have never read Heaney until now. What an introduction!

I am sorry to say I'd never heard of Heaney till the news told of his death. With this introduction to him, I know that I'll have to read more.

A lovely tribute to this talented poet. Beautiful descriptive words that (although I've obviously never been to County Clare), are evocative of Pacific Northwest coasts.
