V is the letter of the day.

V is for Victrola

When I was Very young we had a wind-up Victrola that lived downstairs next to my father's crystal radio.

When I was a little older we acquired a real radio, but we still went downstairs to wind up the Victrola, put on some old records and dance a bit.  The old Victrola was quite magical......

Now people read on Kindles, do amazing things with telephones, write blogs that the whole world can read, if they are so inclined, and I think how my mother would shake her head and say, 'My word, what next'!

For more V stories visit here at ABC Wednesday, with thanks to Mrs. Nesbitt and her Very Versatile aides.

I saw some records in a music shop the other day (Xmas shopping, otherwise I never go in) and I was astounded at the price of them!

I've always liked the look of those needle arms with the little speaker.

We have an old Victrola from my in-laws. It worked with cylinders, even before records.
I now have a ton of records but nothing to play them on. Its such a shame.

I remember the Victrola. My neighbor had one, and it was so much fun as a youngster to wind it up and listen to the music.

Oh that is such a classic picture. We never had a Victrola, but I do love to listen to music, and especially now with all the Christmas Carols.

Oh, I had a wind-up record player, and I always wanted what I called a "His Master's Voice dog"!
Wonderful post, Hildred.

For sure! What changes we've seen. I have an old pay phone in the garage and the grandkids couldn't figure out what the rotary dial was for. And that was a newer model. Far beyond the 'operator' type. :)
