The letter is A

for Anxiety

At this late stage in my life I have tried to banish anxiety, living day by day, depending upon circumstances and experience to enable me to handle problems with some serenity.

Today, tho' I must admit to some anxious thought for the thousands of people here in British Columbia who have been distressed and made homeless by the ferocious wildfires that are so prevalent, fanned by summer winds and encouraged by the hot dry weather we are experiencing..

Oh, I am particularly anxious for family - two dear sons and a precious DIL who are living. off-grid, in the midst of this inferno in the Cariboo/Chilcotin area of the province.

News last night that the fire down the road is now threatening the neighbour's house, and these are the circumstances that the ever-vigilant firemen immediately respond to..... .

So my anxiety is somewhat relieved to know this little stage of the greater fire is being acknowledged and dealt with, along
with all the dreadful fires that have driven whole communities from their homes
 throughout central British Columbia,
and also forty miles from here along the road we traveled so often in the past,
(it being dotted with wonderful lakes and fishing spots, now ravaged).

This is the second time the Meadow has been threatened by wildfire
and they are encouraged by memories of the concern and competence of the fire fighters
last time around.

They are also well equipped with huge mobile water containers,
fire hoses, large moving equipment, and even a drone that makes morning
forays into the surrounding countryside to assess the situation.

Their father would be very proud of the way they are coping with this threat,
and their continual awareness of living where your welfare and safety
depend almost solely on your own spirit of independence.

Although domestic animals are being moved and cared for,
my heart hurts for all the wild animals who call this ravaged countryside home...

And there.........when I thought of the start of a new round of ABC Wednesday,
 and the letter A,
ANXIETY immediately sprang into my mind...

However, anxiety is furthest from my mind
when I consider this new round of ABC Wednesday
so ably and generously undertaken
by Melody and her helpers.

Here, you will find other "A"s

As a person who has to deal with 'your word' on a daily basis, I know all to well how terryfing it is... how hard it also is to ingnore it... just do the best you can, that is enough...

Nature is beautiful and cruel at the same time...hope those people are allright and will be as safe as possible.

Thank you for your first entry in the new home of ABC!

Have a splendid and ♥-warming ABC-day / -week

It's hard these days and times not to suffer with free-floating anxiety -- but concern about fires in your neighborhood (and your family's) is more concrete and imminent. In any case, I have been told, anxiety is all about worrying about that over which we have no control (but wish we did)..... using that definition, your sons and DIL are handling things so well, they have no need to be anxious... but if they were my kids I would still feel some of that emotion (I know that for a fact -- not because of fires, but other trauma around family members).

Happy to know that the good and brave fire crews are on the job ... hoping for rains or at least no wind to speed them on their way.

I hope all is well, I know very well how terrifying wild fires can be.

As a fellow British Columbian, I echo your sentiments about all the fires happening right now. On the news tonight, they said that 599 fires have started since the beginning of the season. It is an absolutely anxiety-ridden situation right now and so many people have lost their homes! To make matters worse, there has actually been some looting going on in homes where people have had to be evacuated! Just awful...I do hope you are safe where you live and I pray for all those others who are affected. I'm okay as I'm in the lower mainland.

The tragedy of these fires is made so much worse when loved ones and friends are in the path of the fire. Prayers for all in BC, especially your family - may all the fires be contained soon. My family is mostly in Vancouver.

Leslie, here in the Similkameen it is very smokey tonight, but we are forty miles from the nearest fire (between Princeton and Merritt) so although we are quite safe we feel distress for the people who are affected and for that beautiful countryside.

Sallie, - I agree with you that anxiety is a useless emotion (or state of affairs), but I fear it will always be a mother's affliction.

We're anxious anytime something is out of our control. I hope your family will be OK. I didn't realize the fires were in Canada too. There was a drought in Texas in 2011 (I think that's correct). Anyway, a few months ago I drove to Austin and we went through the area of those fires and you can still tell. It will take many years for everything to grow back. I'm an animal person and I feel bad for the wildlife too.
