Confined to Barracks

The 10th day of January, 2018

And I am Confined to Barracks!!

Having spent the first forty years of my married life

as a farmer's wife

on a Veteran's Project.

I found my vocabulary changed considerably,

and I adopted many a military phrase, --

like being thoroughly Brassed Off

that I am in the midst of a

SNAFU
(situation normal, all fouled up)
ladies' more elegant interpretation

in that I am Confined to Barracks on account of

the snow and ice that has put my family in a Flap

that I might Fold Up and Hit the Deck!!

This would never have happened Yonks
(a long time ago)

when I was the one who was in a Flap because it was

quite possible the rascals were AWOL

and I had to do Bed Checks every night!!!

Ah well, times change...

but as much as I appreciate their concern

I do yearn for a little freedom to be

out and about......

Small patches of blue sky right now and soon

the sun will be peaking over the mountain top,

and maybe I will take my lunch out to the porch and dream

about what all the little bulbs are doing,

under that ice and snow that limits old ladies

from going sledding and skiing!

Or even to the grocery store....(whinging..)

What a great post; just another example of how creatively you write. Sometimes, it seems I live in SNAFU which does thoroughly brass me off! Your tender little bulbs and roots underground are probably loving the blanket of snow.

Several extended family members [roughly our own age] have had some serious mishaps while trying to get about on the ice. A fall on ice can happen to anyone, of course, but I'm told our older bones don't knit back in place very well.
Being weather bound isn't bad as long as one has food and plenty of books to read.
I noticed today that after the long run of cold weather the south-facing porch was sunny and warm.

Ah yes, I have really no valid reason to complain and am well aware of the dangers of ice, having broken a wrist just four or five years ago in a hurried icy fall. Besides books, both looms have interesting and challenging warps, and my days are quite interesting as long as I don't despair about living in the midst of a cloud for weeks at a time!!! Sun today was lovely and encouraging, -- weather report not so cheery!!!

Love it. I am confined to barracks for another reason. It is far too hot to be out and about but I did manage to shop this morning.

Isn't it funny how those indoor interests* that we always wish we had more time for aren't as much fun when that is all you can do? *Read, blog, and in your case weave..... you do more than I ever could!! And of course notice I am not even mentioning clean house.
