ABC Wednesday

The letter is M

The flower is the Morning Glory

A beautiful purple Morning Glory, stretching out from the fence

to blossom amidst the roses and delphiniums

Lovely in the morning sun, the Morning Glory is partial to afternoon siestas

but early in the morning a wall covered with these sweet cup shaped blossoms

is reward enough for any early riser.

Once you have this annual established each year the seeds germinate in the warm ground

and the vine starts climbing in the spring,

covering up all sorts of unsightly garden debris

and lingering until the first frost.

I wouldn't be without them!

For more Ms mosey over to Mrs. Nesbitts, here,

with thanks to all who make this meme such a pleasure.

My father loved Morning Glories and always grew them on the south wall of his house. Here in Kentucky we've found them romping over everything--running flat over the ground until they can find a stalk or a building to climb. The flowers are blue or pink, making me suspect that they are the offspring of a cultivated variety first planted decades ago.

I love Morning Glory Hildred but sadly it doesn't grow well up here in the North, the weather never gets warm enough for it.

So pretty in deep blue! We had a similar thing to what Morning's Minion describes when we lived in Oregon though...the vines would wrap around and strangle everything in their way ... rhody bushes and roses ... and children and houses if we got really behind on our weeding! (Those flowers were washed out pinkish, not nearly so beautiful as yours). Makes me wonder what the current owner of the house has done with them (or if it is covered over with morning glory and English Ivy (which we also had a problem with).

I need to have some of these growing on my fence too. They would be so colorful.

well, isn't that morning glory just a shot of color amid the more pastel colors. I do love morning glories.

Hildred, I am having trouble emailing anyone from their profile. Not sure what it is but I wanted to say that I am so sorry you lost your sweet husband and that you are struggling with his loss. It is a tough journey but as time goes on the struggles do get less, the memories sweeter and you discover that you are one strong woman who is a survivor. My best to you always.
