A bleak day....

The flag above the Cenotaph descends to half mast

and we grieve for another cherished Veteran.

My darling husband died yesterday,

but I will be back anon.......

Dear, dear Hildred - I have corresponded with you for so long that both you and Charles have become friends. The loss of a friend is something to be mourned - I am there with you in spirit and send you my love.

Oh my sweet Hildred...oh I am so very very sorry I have no words. I am sad thinking of you both. Please know that we care. You and Charles both seem like real rather than virtual friends.

I thought of you this morning when I awoke, Hildred. I hope you are with your family in this time of loss and grief.

Dear Heart,
My very being suffers with the loss of Charles. I know that your faith, your family, and your friends will surround you with their love as they too grieve.
I wish I could be with you, but I will pray that although you experience lonliness, you will not be alone. With love, Willo

Thank you so much for all your loving thoughts. My loneliness is compensated by my gratitude that Charles is no longer struggling, and I can only be grateful for that.

I always search for words to express comfort when a friend or family member passes. While I will never meet you in person, I have admired the way you and your Charles tackled the various challenges of retirment. I have liked thinking of him scooting off on his cart to hobnob and sing at various gatherings.
You are now missing him so deeply--and likely always will do so.
I hope you find peace in the days ahead.

Dear, dear Hildred, my mother has been ill and I have been spending much of my time going back and forth from my house in GA to hers in TN. I haven't had much time for the computer. I just logged on to daybyday and saw this post...I couldn't keep the tears from falling. I am so very sorry for your loss. You and Charles have touched so many people through this blog. You've taught us how to live out our lives well. I am so grateful for all you have shared. I will keep you in my prayers for continued strength. May God give you the peace that passes all understanding.
