Just one pair I think. This was probably written a couple of years ago. I can understand, unfortunately, the attraction of the plumes - they would rival the peacock's tail. It's smaller cousin, the Little Egret began this process about 25 years ago and is now frequently seen throughout Southern Britain. All the result of global warming, probably. The Little Egret used to be shot for its plumes (long feathers on its head) and this practice was the reason that a number of ladies got together to protest about it.
