ABC Wednesday

The letter is C this week

Here is Marc Chagall, a Russian artist, born in 1887 the eldest of nine children.

I have chosen the glorious Chagall Windows in the Hadassah Hospital in Israel to represent C,
the ones about which Marc Chagall said in 1962

"This is my modest gift to the Jewish people who have always dreamt of biblical love, friendship and of peace among all peoples.  This is my gift to that people which lived here thousands of years ago among the other Semitic people".

The light that emanates from these windows bathes the Abbell Synagogue at the Hadassah University Medical Centre in a special glow. The sun filters through the brilliant colors of the stained glass capturing their radiance and even in the misty haze of a cloudy day 'Chagall's genius transforms time and space'

Every pane is said to be a microcosm of Chagall's world, of his love for his people and his deep sense of identification with Jewish history.

Each window is dominated by a specific color and contains a quotation from the individual blessing on Jacob's twelve sons and Moses' blessing on the twelve tribes.

The Synagogue was dedicated in the presence of the artist on February 6, 1962.
as part of Hadassah's Golden Anniversary Celebration.

with thanks to Roger and Denise and all their helpers who come and read your contribution.

These are such beautiful works of art. So many artists never get recognized for their work in their lifetimes.
I'm glad he see them appreciated.

At first I was disappointed when your alphabet flower series ended... but now I am grateful for this other kind of beauty you are sharing -- I learn something new each week here. (And that's good for aging brains!)

Very great choice for C, Hildred! I have seen these magnificent windows in the Hadassa Hospital when I was in Israel in March 2012. Dina took me there. I also took photos of the windows and looked up the blessings of Jacob to his sons.I was so happy to have been able to see them with my own eyes.Thank you for your post, Hildred. Have a great week!

They are breathtaking, and the very special think for me, is that you can look and look and constantly find more inspiration and awe.

Great choice for "C"

Hildred, I put a poem I received from "A Year of Being Here" in my post for today and I thanked you for telling me about it. Hope that is OK.

Hello Hildred — It's been a long time, and I think it's my fault. I hope you are well.
I love the stained glass windows you chose for this week's ABC. Incredibly beautiful.
All best wishes,
K
